According to an article on the Huffington Post, comedian Bill Cosby is set to showcase his vast, decades-long collection of African American art. The private collection will be on display beginning this November at the Smithsonian?s National Museum of African Art. The exhibition will portray ?a unique exhibit juxtaposing African-American art with African art.?
Fans of Cosby?s ‘Cliff Huxtable’ character on the beloved, ?The Cosby Show,? which ran from 1984 to 1992, may recall seeing works by noted Black artists such as Varnette P. Honeywood, Romare Bearden and Jacob Lawrence on the televised set of the show.???
“It’s so important to show art by African-American artists in this exhibition,” Cosby said in a written statement. “To me, it’s a way for people to see what exists and to give voice to many of these artists who were silenced for so long, some of whom will speak no more.”
