Biden ‘determined’ to work out birth control issue

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Vice President Joe Biden says he believes the Obama administration can address concerns raised by the Catholic church and religious groups about a new birth control policy that says church-affiliated employers must provide contraceptive coverage for their employees.

Biden tells a Cincinnati radio station Thursday that he’s “determined to see that this gets worked out and I believe we can work it out.”

Biden says there is a “lot of misunderstanding” about the rule but says there will be a “significant attempt to work this out.”

The issue has caused an election-year furor since it was announced last month. The White House has signaled it’s looking for a way to ensure women have free access to birth control while avoiding requiring religious employers to provide contraception coverage directly.
