Benjamin F. Chavis Jr.

    Civil-rights leader Benjamin F. Chavis Jr. was named president of Education Online Services Corp.

    He will help to develop and implement online curriculum infrastructure, student recruitment, enrollment and retention on behalf of Historically Black Colleges and Universities and other diverse institutions of higher learning.

    Chavis is the co-founder and president of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, a coalition of hip-hop artists and recording industry executives focused on education advocacy and youth empowerment.

    He was president and CEO of the National African American Leadership Summit, national executive director of the Million Man March, executive director and CEO of the NAACP and CEO of United Church of Christ Commission for Racial Justice.

    He has a bachelor’s in chemistry from the University of North Carolina, a master’s in divinity from Duke University and a doctorate in ministry from Howard University.
