Barnes & Noble, Yahoo, Guess are big market movers

Barnes & Noble Inc., down $2.85 at $14.59

The bookseller said its third-quarter loss narrowed as costs lowered, but its results missed what Wall Street was expecting.

LDK Solar Co. Ltd., down 7 cents at $3.62

A Kaufman Brothers analyst said in a note that the Chinese solar company’s ability to refinance debt could be a “major concern.”

Nordstrom Inc., up $1.82 at $47.10

The upscale retailer said that revenue at stores open at least a year rose 5.6 percent in November, above analysts’ predictions.

Guess Inc., up $1.49 at $29.61

A Jefferies & Co. analyst said that the clothing company’s women’s business in the United States is improving as sales pick up.

US Airways Group Inc., up 22 cents at $4.94

A Barclays Capital analyst upgraded shares of the airline, saying that the company’s outlook is more positive than many believe.

La-Z-Boy Inc., up $1.67 at $11.57

The furniture maker said that its profit more than doubled in the second quarter as sales of upholstered products picked up.

Yahoo Inc., up 52 cents at $16.23

Reuters and Bloomberg reported that private-equity companies are looking to buy the Internet company, or at least buy a major stake.

Clearwire Corp., up 25 cents at $2.03

Wireless company Sprint Nextel Corp. said it will use the data network its independent subsidiary Clearwire is planning to build.
