MELBOURNE, Fla. (AP) ? Communications network security provider AuthenTec Inc. reported a small profit in the third quarter compared to a loss last year, as sales almost doubled.
The company said its net income for the quarter was $201,000, or break-even on a per-share basis. That’s up steeply from the same period last year when the company lost $11.5 million, or 37 cents per share.
Revenue for the quarter was $19.3 million, compared to $10.2 million during the prior year period.
AuthenTec also reported adjusted net income, excluding one-time costs like legal fees and compensation, of $1.7 million, or 4 cents per share, compared to adjusted income during the prior year period of a loss of $3.6 million, or 11 cents per share.
The company said third-quarter sales were boosted by increasing demand for its software and hardware systems that provide encrypted data services for mobile phone networks.
It said it expects fourth-quarter revenue to be between $18.3 million and $19.3 million.
Shares of AuthenTec rose 19 cents, or 5 percent, to $3.83 in aftermarket trading.
