?

Audrey Boone Tillman began her career as the only attorney of color at one of the largest law firms in North Carolina. ?Every time I entered the courtroom I was doing that for me, my client and the people coming behind. Just learning how to accept and shoulder that responsibility helped me,? she says. Today, the wife and mother of three is the executive vice president for Corporate Services at Aflac Inc., responsible for all aspects of human resource management for the firm?s 4,400-plus employees.

?

Tillman, who holds a bachelor?s degree in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a juris doctorate from the University Of Georgia School Of Law, joined Aflac?s legal department in 1996. She provided legal counsel to the Human Resources division, which led to her promotion to senior vice president, director of human resources in 2001, and to executive vice president, Corporate Services, in 2008. ?When I was asked to leave the legal division and go to human resources that was a huge leap. I was pleased with the work that I was able to do, the team I was able to put together, the ability to get people aligned and getting my area to a place of respect and prominence in the company,? says Tillman, who also served as an associate professor at North Carolina Central University School of Law.

?

Tillman is an active member of her church, the Links and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and leads Aflac?s community service initiatives. ?Aflac is a good corporate citizen,? she affirms. Tillman has received numerous awards for her dedication, leadership and commitment to success in business, to shaping the direction of her community, and to improving the lives of women. Privately, she enjoys spending time with her family, staying active and reading.
