Apple spent $460,000 to lobby gov’t in 3rd quarter

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Apple Inc. spent $460,000 during the third quarter to lobby the federal government on issues such as patent reform, technology funding for education and green technology, according to a quarterly disclosure report.

That is down 42 percent from the $790,000 that the iPhone and iPad maker spent in the previous quarter and up 35 percent from the $340,000 it spent in the third quarter of 2010.

Other issues Apple lobbied on included electronic waste, trade, battery transportation, data security, consumer privacy online and telecommunications- and trade-related topics.

Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple lobbied Congress, the departments of Education and Commerce, the Federal Communications Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Trade Representative, according to the report it filed Oct. 20 with the House clerk’s office.
