HELENA, Mont. (AP) ? A Montana congressman says a federal judge who sent a racist email involving President Barack Obama’s mother will apologize to the president and ask an appellate court to review the matter.
Republican Rep. Denny Rehberg’s spokesman says Rehberg spoke Thursday with Judge Richard Cebull. Spokesman Jed Link says Cebull indicated he would send Obama a formal apology and ask for the review from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Cebull on Wednesday admitted that he forwarded the email to six friends, but said he did so because he disliked Obama, not from racism.
News of the email has prompted calls for Cebull’s resignation.
Cebull did not return calls from The Associated Press
