Ansley’s first military customer, a naval base in Mayport, Florida, led to purchases from other naval bases up and down the east coast starting in 2003.
In 2005 the company moved from annual sales of 1,000 pounds to 40,000 pounds of ribs to more than one million pounds of meat and changed the name from Ribs on Wheels to Ansley’s Foods. Selling to the Department of Defense, the company is expanding, offering more than 25 products including seafood, nutritional drinks, and most recently, a Hispanic line of foods online.
Ansley’s enterprises also include a restaurant, AJ’s on Park Street, also located in Jacksonville. Mark Ansley is a product of Duval County Public Schools and graduated in 1981 from Florida A&M School of Business and Industry with a bachelor’s degree in management and administration. He serves on the board for Students of Success Academy, a charter school in Jacksonville, and is an avid patron of organizations that support autism.
