On December 4, 2013, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater held its opening night gala benefit at New York City Center on West 55th Street. The event was hosted by actress Gabrielle Union who served as one of this year’s honorary co-chairs. Other co-chairs included Simin Allison & in memory, Herb Allison, Kathryn & Kenneth Chenault, Daria L. Foster & Erich J. Wallach, Agnes & Gerald Hassell, Debra L. Lee, and Joan & Sandy Weill. The evening helped raise over $2.4 million which will fund new works, scholarships and educational programs for young people. ?

The City Center performances run through January 5 and beginning in February 2014, the Company sets out on a 23-city tour throughout North America.
