At the Keep a Child Alive annual fundraiser gala last night, Grammy-award winning singer songwriter Alicia Keys raised $1.3 million dollars to benefit people affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.
Founded in 2003, the charity was launched to bring attention to the millions of people throughout sub-Saharan Africa who have been killed by the disease. Keys honored Oprah Winfrey for her philanthropic endeavors, particularly the school she opened in South Africa in 2007, The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls.?????
Singers Angelique Kidjo and Bonnie Raitt were among the performers.
