SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? Advanced Micro Devices Inc. found itself in a difficult spot in the third quarter, falling further behind Intel Corp. because of manufacturing problems with a key chip.
Intel appears to be profiting from AMD’s troubles. Intel says it has gained market share at AMD’s expense because of the manufacturing issues.
When AMD reports its quarterly figures Thursday after the market closes, analysts are expecting that AMD will have earned 10 cents per share, excluding items, on $1.66 billion in revenue, according to FactSet.
Sunnyvale, Calif.-based AMD had cut its forecast, warning that revenue rose 4 percent to 6 percent over the quarter before, translating to a range of $1.63 billion to $1.67 billion, and that gross profit margin should be 44 percent to 45 percent.
