Dennis WalcottDennis Walcott, formerly the deputy mayor for education in New York City?s Mayor Michael Bloomberg?s administration, has been appointed as chancellor of the New York City Department of Education. The position is an extremely high-profile and powerful one, as it directs education policy for all public schools in New York City. Walcott replaces Cathie Black, who resigned after a short, embattled three-month tenure. A former teacher himself, Walcott also formerly held the position of president and chief executive of the New York Urban League.
