The opportunity to deliver game-changing marketing platforms in industries she is most passionate about is particularly close to Adrienne R. Lofton?s heart. A Howard University graduate, Lofton has spent most of her career homing in on what it takes to win the hearts and minds of the multicultural community, as she did at General Motors Planworks and Target Corp., and speaking to athletes and youth in her current role as senior vice president of global brand marketing at sportswear company Under Armour.
Her tenure at Gap Inc.? her first job after Howard ? had the greatest impact on her career. ?I was placed on the Gap Brand team, which happened to be all women who were extremely tenured in fashion and marketing. Because the team was lean I was able to learn quickly. We built incredible brand campaigns, delivered breakthrough product-marketing stories, opened new markets internationally, and set the foundation for what was an incredibly iconic brand around the world at that time. That experience gave me a real sense of work ethic and helped me understand how critical teamwork is to the greater success of any project or individual,? she explains.
At Under Armour, the former college volleyball player again is working in a field she loves. Says Lofton, ?A critical piece of my role is to set the brand?s north star, and ensure we remain athlete obsessed in everything we do.? UA founder Kevin Plank hired Lofton to start the Women?s Marketing team. Eight years later, it is a full women?s marketing organization, an accomplishment Lofton is proud to see continue to evolve, grow and drive the future of what UA Women?s will look like. ?Sport is where I belong and thrive, and marketing is where I am most engaged and inspired. I don?t see myself moving away from this space any time soon,? she says.
