Tennille M. Robinson
Senior Content & Events Producer
New York City
Age: 32

Tennille M. Robinson got her first taste of the world?s vastness and complexity from watching television news programs like ?Nightline? and ?20/20? with her grandmother as a child. A high school internship at The Times Picayune, led the New Orleans native to a career in journalism. While pursuing a bachelor?s degree in communications/broadcast at Xavier University of Louisiana, she attended New York University through an exchange program and later served as editor-in-chief of Xavier?s college newspaper, The Xavier Herald. After graduating, she again set her sights on New York City, simultaneously holding three part-time jobs to save for the move. An internship offered by Black Enterprise magazine would not guarantee her employment after its completion, but she accepted it, only to see her housing arrangements fall through the day she arrived in the city.

Robinson was undeterred. ?I think my drive comes from not wanting to fail,? she says. ?Although now we look at failing as opportunities to learn, I needed to prove myself, to show people what I was made of.? Her mother?s lessons on the value of an education and the importance of extracting more out of life than what may have been placed before you proved critical. Robinson?s drive got her hired by Black Enterprise, where she rose from researcher to writer and ultimately to senior multimedia small-business content producer. As senior content and events producer at Inc. magazine since 2011, she develops and writes content and programming for the company?s live-event platform.

Robinson has taken additional courses at NYU and teaches workshops on entrepreneurship, sharing the knowledge and resources gained from working at two media companies focused on helping people launch and grow their businesses.? She will start her own entrepreneurial venture someday. ?I?m surrounded by so much insight, information and inspiration. This motivates me to want to do more,? she says.
