Assistant Vice President, Marketing
L?Oreal USA Inc.
New York City
Assistant vice president of marketing for SoftSheen-Carson, a division of L?Oreal USA Inc., Sivonne Davis leads the strategic development and marketing execution of two iconic, African American-targeted brands ? Dark and Lovely and Let?s Jam. Since joining the company in 2012, she has managed to boost revenue and under her leadership, earn a 2014 Effie Award on a national marketing campaign. Davis was drawn to marketing after seeing the glamorous portrayal of the field in the movie ?Boomerang.? Early mentors?and career-exploring internships as early as high school with INROADS solidified her interest in making it a career. She enjoyed its creative aspect. ?It forces you to think differently about how to get someone?s attention and truly draw someone in,? she says.
Davis graduated from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor?s degree in economics and spent 12 years in marketing positions at Kraft Foods Inc., before joining L?Oreal. She describes herself as a quiet, resilient leader, a quality she says she inherited from her mother, Mary Davis, who at times worked as many as three jobs at a time to make ends meet and still managed to make a home-cooked meal for her family every night. ?I think back on the things that she?s gone through and it makes it very hard to say I give up, because she didn?t.?
Family and a close circle of friends had a great deal to do with who Davis is today and remain instrumental in keeping her grounded. While energized by fostering results-producing teamwork, she also believes it is important to have fun and is an ardent believer in the stress-relieving power of a good belly laugh. ?People say when they hear me laugh, it?s something that pulls others in,? says Davis,? ?so I try to laugh a lot.?
