Brand Manager, Masterbrand ?
Battle Creek, Mich.
Amani Brown is back in Michigan as the new brand manager for Kellogg?s. Heading Kellogg?s Masterbrand since May 2014, she is building the company?s Olympics sponsorship and its annual Give a Child Breakfast campaign.?
A Diamond Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Brown graduated from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor with a bachelor?s degree in English and Japanese, and promptly moved to Japan to teach English for a year. Upon her return to the United States, she embarked on a sales career. ?Tom Del Franco was my first manager in corporate America,? she says, referring to her tenure in sales at Mazda North America Operations. ?He wasn?t perfect, but he had a lot of qualities I admire in a leader and always encouraged me to push farther and try harder,? she says. After several years in sales, Brown obtained an MBA in marketing and strategy from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. ?Now, I ?push farther? by challenging norms while building strong brands,? she says.
Brown continues to develop her skills outside the office as communications chair of Kellogg?s African American Resource Group, and as the Midwest Regional Director of Calibr, an Executive Leadership Council affiliate group. Even further outside the office, she enjoys Pilates, hot yoga, and trying to see every nook and cranny of the world. Those closest to her may describe her as quirky and fun, but those very qualities seem not only to draw people to her but also to contribute to her success. Brown definitely prefers a nonconventional approach to life and emphasizes this by quoting the last three lines of a favored poem by Robert Frost:?
?Two roads diverged in a wood, and I / I took the one less traveled by / and that has made all the difference.? ?
