IncomeAre you looking for a way to leave the rat race so you can spend more time with your family? Does working from the comfort and safety of your own home excite you? Well, it should! Men and women all over the country are taking back their time and choosing the type of meaningful work that gives them self-worth, a flexible schedule, and the ability to tend to their children while earning a fantastic living.

Working from home has never been easier. Service providers like Vonage, Skype, and Yahoo Messenger make calling anywhere in the world effortless. Social media platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter help market small business and give people a direct connection to potential clients and customers.

With that being said, there is endless opportunity for growth on the web. Here are a couple of places that need workers like you to keep them running:

1.    Freelance Writer.  Demand Studios has redefined telecommuting work. Aside from weekly paychecks and healthcare benefits, writers can choose a select number of articles at a time from the company’s database. A person can fetch $7.50 to $15.00 per article and can increase their earnings by sharing revenue from advertiser clicks. The site is free to join and the application process takes minutes to complete.

2.    Mystery Shopper/Secret Shopper.  This gig often gets a bad rap but is completely legitimate.  Companies like Jancyn, A Closer Look, and Strategic Reflections are looking for objective secret shoppers in your area. The sign-up process takes minutes. Alerts are sent to your inbox every time there is a shop in your area.  Assignments vary in length, type, and distance. Payments are sent by check or via Paypal. (Do not pay fees to access these databases. These companies are scams!)

3.    Graphic or Webpage Designer.  GetaCoder and Elance allow freelancers to bid against one another for high paying gigs. The sites are updated several times throughout the day and email notifications match up your skills with potential employers. Anyone with HTML skills or a background in graphic or website design will find plenty of jobs to choose from.

4.    Tutor and Teach.
Wyzant, TeachStreet and CraftEdOnline offer numerous opportunities for employment.  Wyzant allows you to create a profile and get matched up with students who are looking for a tutor in a particular subject. TeachStreet and CraftEdOnline allow you to create your classes, advertise them, and teach them to others through the web. From flower arranging to Algebra, your skills and knowledge can help others and line your pockets with cash too!

Melinda F. Emerson, author of the book, Become Your Own Boss in 12 Months: A Month-by-Month Guide to a Business That Works has this to say about ventures of the heart:

“On those days when there is no money and plenty of work to do, your love for what you do will be the only thing that keeps you going.”

Before quitting your day job, try working as a mystery shopper or tutor on the side. Try to generate as much savings as you can to fall back on during lean times and never lose sight of your dreams. A healthy dose of determination may be all that is needed to become a successful stay-at-home mom or dad. In fact, you’ll never know until you try it.
