The Associated Press is reporting that Don Cornelius, creator, host and executive producer of the legendary ?Soul Train?, was found dead in his home on Wednesday. He was 75.
Cornelius was seen as a visionary in Black music programming. “Soul Train”, an American musical variety show, aired nationally from 1971 to 2006 and featured R&B, Soul, and Hip-hop artists. It was later dubbed as the “longest, first-run, nationally syndicated program in television history”. It originated Chicago, Illinois.
In a statement released to the press on Wednesday, music veteran and composer Quincy Jones has said: ?I am shocked and deeply saddened at the sudden passing of my friend, colleague, and business partner Don Cornelius. Don was a visionary pioneer and a giant in our business. Before MTV there was ?Soul Train,? that will be the great legacy of Don Cornelius. His contributions to television, music and our culture as a whole will never be matched. My heart goes out to Don?s family and loved ones.?
